New Delhi, 4 December (Hindustan Reporter). Arjun Erigaisi, who became the second Indian after five-time world champion Vishwanathan Anand to cross the 2800-Elo barrier in classical chess rating, is set to make his debut at the Norway Chess 2025 tournament.
Arjun, representing Team Alkaloid at the 2024 European Chess Club Cup, reached the 2800-Elo milestone by defeating Russia’s Dmitry Andreikin with the white pieces in the fifth round. He is rated 2801 in the FIDE rating list of December 2024 and is currently ranked fourth in the world.
On his style and evolution, Arjun said in a statement, “I used to lose games due to over-ambition and lack of objectivity, but now I try to pursue my ambition in a balanced manner.”
The Norway Chess 2025 tournament will take place from May 26 to June 6 with a typical 6-player double round-robin format. As the excitement for the tournament grows, Arjun expressed his excitement about the innovative format of the event.
“There are a lot of exciting things about Norway Chess, but for me, I would say the time control and the Armageddon format stand out the most to me,” he said.
