Maharashtra: Over 25 Dogs Poisoned in Akkalkot: Shocking Case of Animal Cruelty, FIR Filed |
In a shocking case of animal cruelty, over 25 dogs were allegedly poisoned in Akkalkot, situated in Maharashtra’s Solapur district, by unidentified people. The incident has sparked outrage among animal rights activists and locals.
After the heinous crime, an FIR was registered at the Akkalkot Police Station on November 30, 2024, with the help of Roshan Pathak, Animal Rights Advisor at PAL Foundation, under the guidance of Senior Police Inspector Sudhir Kudalkar.
According to information from local feeders Samarth Hatte and Atish Katare, 12-14 poisoned dogs were found, and photographs were taken before the civic body removed the bodies. The dogs are believed to have consumed poison intended for pigs, though this remains unclear.
The incident has raised numerous questions, especially after a visit to the municipal office, where officials claimed the poison was meant for pigs. However, the cruelty directed at innocent animals — whether pigs or dogs — has left the community in shock and anger.
Roshan Pathak, after talking with Akkalkot civic body chief officer Ramakant Deke, confirmed that updates will be provided soon. Animal rights activists are demanding justice for the affected dogs and stronger actions to prevent future cruelty.
The truth behind the poisoning will soon come to light as investigations have been initiated, with many questioning how such inhumane actions can be allowed to happen.
