People often leave behind a feedback about their accommodation or ring the room services over concerns during their stay. Customers report unclean conditions to the hotel staff and demand quick resolution when things go wrong. In a similar case, a China man flagged over 60 hotels he checked-in at for providing him with unsanitary conditions to stay.
63 hotels scammed
A 21-year-old man with the surname Jiang has made the headlines for raising concerns at 63 of the total 300 hotels he stayed, claiming them to be dirty and infested.
A report in the South China Morning Post (SCMP) pointed out that Jiang would flag hotels for unsanitary conditions only to seek free stay and compensation from them.
Truth behind claims of unclean hotel settings
The media outlet revealed the truth behind the man’s actions and stated that he would carry these concerning things himself to later stage about having found them onboard.
Jiang would reportedly visit hotels with “cicadas, dead cockroaches, used condoms, and strands of hair”, and then raise a complain about the hotel’s unclean state scamming them for money.
According to reports, Jiang involved in this strange pattern to attract money through hotel compensation to fund his education and enrol into college.
Police speak
Addressing the young man’s behaviour of visiting hotels over a span of 10 months to pick and point minor claws or scam them with the props he carried, a police officer told the local media, “Jiang would exploit minor flaws or plant insects, bugs, and hair to threaten hotels with complaints or online exposure, demanding free stays or compensation”.
Police arrested him from one of his recent stays. It was learned that he had successfully scammed 63 hotels till date, where he extorted a total of $5,200 (Rs 4.40 lakh approx.).
