International Society for Krishna Consciousness (Iskcon), Kolkata spokesperson has claimed that a lawyer representing Bangladeshi Hindu monk Chinmoy Krishna Prabhu has been brutally attacked by ‘Islamists’. Radharamn Das, the Kolkata spokesperson of Iskcon, has made the claim on social media platform X (formerly Twitter) posting an image of an injured person who Das says was advocate Ramen Roy. In his post, Das has not specified where or when the attack took place but has appealed everyone to pray for advocate Roy who he said was in ICU.

The Free Press Journal has not independently verified veracity of Radharamn Das’ claims. At the time of publishing of this story, Das had not responded to questions posed to him via X.

Interestingly, an official Facebook account affiliated to Bangladesh government has previously said that a lawyer named ‘Subasish Sharma’ was representing Chinmoy Krishna Prabhu.

Chinmoy Krishna Prabhu is an influential religious leader in Bangladesh. He is currently facing sedition charges for allegedly dishonouring Bangladesh flag in a rally in October.

On November 26th, a mob hacked lawyer Saiful Islam to death in Dhaka after local court denied bail to Chinmoy Krishna Prabhu. As per media reports, Islam was an assistant public prosecutor who represented the Bangladeshi state.

Prabhu was arrested on November 25 while he was arrested on Dhaka airport. He was denied bail the next day which led to violence and killing of assistant public prosecutor Saiful Islam.

Relations between India and Bangladesh have come under strain ever since former prime minister Sheikh Hasina resigned from her post and fled to India. Currently, a government headed by Nobel laureate Muhammad Yunus is governing the country but there have been numerous cases of attacks on minority Hindus in the country, something that India has voiced its concern about.
