The Election Commission has filed a complaint against Syed Shuja for making false claims of EVM tampering, spreading misinformation and trying to sensationalize such matters. Another FIR has been registered in Mumbai against Syed Shuja, who is trying to instigate people by spreading false propaganda against EVMs. Strict legal action will be taken against those making false claims of tampering with Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs), spreading misinformation or trying to sensationalize such matters. This is a serious crime under the law.

Earlier, the Election Commission had also filed an FIR against Syed Shuja, who was allegedly hiding in another country. Recently, an FIR has been registered again against the same person in Mumbai.

Delhi and Mumbai Police are actively investigating the matter and taking necessary steps to identify and arrest any persons who are in contact with such persons while in India or are involved in these malicious activities . The Election Commission made it clear that such activities are serious crimes and no one involved in it will be spared.

False claim regarding EVM

The Chief Election Commissioner of Maharashtra has said that a video was shared by some social media users in which a person named Sayaz Shuja is making false, baseless claims of EVM hacking and tampering through EVM frequency in Maharashtra elections.

After receiving a complaint from CEO Maharashtra, Mumbai Cyber Police registered FIR number 0146/2024 against the person seen in this video at Cyber Police Station, South, Mumbai on the night of November 30. The offense has been registered under Section 318/4 of the Indian Penal Code (BNS), 2023 as well as Section 43 (G) and Section 66 (D) of the IT Act, 2000.

‘EVM is tamper proof’

The Election Commission says that EVM is an independent machine which no one can connect to any network including Wi-Fi or Bluetooth. Therefore the question of tampering with EVMs does not arise. EVMs are completely tamper-proof. The Supreme Court has also expressed confidence in EVMs on many occasions. The Election Commission of India has already published a detailed FAQ on its website to clear any doubts on EVMs.

In one such incident of false claims, an FIR was lodged in Delhi in 2019 on the instructions of the Election Commission against the same person (Syed Shuja), who is hiding in another country. Sources in the Election Commission of India said that strict action will be taken against those spreading misinformation about EVMs.
