Overheard In Bhopal: Prevented From Joining, Yeh Nazdeekiyan, Sahib’s Forty Winks, Caught In Controversy & More |
Prevented From Joining
An IAS officer, known for uprightness and strictness, has been allotted two departments in a recent administrative reshuffle. He has already joined a corporation that comes under one of the departments, but his way to joining another department has been blocked. There are reports that he was advised against joining this place. A Sahib of the department, where the officer had to join, got in his way. Because the officer is very powerful, he prevented this upright bureaucrat from joining there. The officer, who managed to stop the process, was very powerful during the Congress regime, too. After the Congress government fell, he was removed from the post, but when the BJP returned to power, he got back the position. The corridors of power reverberate with the stories of his deeds. Now, the bureaucrats are discussing the way he has prevented an officer from joining a department.
Only one PS!
The state government is completing one year in office. A large number of IAS officers have been transferred since the government was formed. But there is only one Principal Secretary (PS) who has not been shifted this year. The PS is holding the same department as was allotted to him at the time of government formation. A few days ago, he was given the charge of another department. After the government formation, there were talks about his shifting, but his name was struck off the transfer list for some reasons. The RSS takes keen interest in one of the departments, which the PS is heading. A few functionaries of the RSS, who possess good opinions about the officer, stop his transfer, but there are talks that in the upcoming administrative reshuffle, one of his departments will be changed.
Yeh Nazdeekiyan
A senior IAS officer has tried to impress the head of the state since the government formation. The Sahib is no more as powerful as he was, and it is evident on his countenance. But now, God seems to have accepted the Sahib’s prayers, for he has found an opportunity to please the head of the state. During a trip, the Sahib made all efforts to get closer to the Boss, and as long as he was with the head of the state, he spared no efforts to flatter him. People in the corridors of power say that Sahib thinks he has been able to woo the Boss. So, the Sahib hopes he may get a plum posting in the upcoming administrative reshuffle. He has set his eyes on a department where another officer has been recently transferred. The Sahib plans to join the department, which his relatives also want him to do.
Sahib’s forty winks
An IAS officer is down with lack of sleep, which is apparent in meetings. When meetings are held, he begins to catch forty winks, and it was evident when the Chief Minister and the Chief Secretary were holding meetings. The situation came to such a pass that in a few meetings, when he was nodding off, snorting aloud, his colleagues had to wake him up. They are trying to find the reasons behind his catnap. There are reports that because the Sahib remains awake till late in the night, he feels sleepy during the day. Once this officer was considered upright, but his image has tarnished. He is not able to stay in a department for a long time. The Sahib has been transferred to several departments. There are many stories about him in the corridors of power. The present Bade Sahib does not like him, but by means of his political clouts, he gets important positions.
Caught in controversy
A department considered important for the government is caught in controversies, for its minister and secretary are not on good terms. The secretary throws a spanner in the minister’s works on the pretext of rules. Similarly, the IAS officer, working under the secretary, frustrates the latter’s plans. The situation has come to such a pass that everything has gone haywire in the department where all employees are working on their own unbridled. Because of this confusion, decisions on important issues are kept in abeyance. An instruction, recently issued by an officer of the department, has kicked up a row. The officer received a dressing-down from the higher-ups after issuing the instruction. The reports about the situation the department is in have reached the higher-ups. So, in the coming days, there may be some changes in the department.
Changes in the offing
The government has set its eyes on the head of an important department after removing the one from another key wing. Plans are afoot to shift the officer to another place. Since the higher-ups consider him intelligent, they may send him to an important department. There were reports that the government had planned to transfer a divisional commissioner to the department. But because of interference by an officer, the plan to transfer the HoD was put off, yet the latter is still on the government’s radar. The department is under pressure these days. An atmosphere is being created against this officer because of the pressure. Both friends and adversaries of the Sahib have become active. In an effort to remain in the department at least for a few months, the Sahib is using his clout.
