MP: Violence Erupts In Khajuri Devda Over Land Dispute; Several Injured, Cases Registered Against 20 Members | FP Photo
Alot (Madhya Pradesh): A land dispute in Khajuri Devda village near Alot has escalated into violence between the Bhati and Damaami communities, leading to the registration of cases against 10 members each from both groups.
The conflict centres on a piece of government land that the Bhati community cultivated for approximately 30 years, while the Damaami community claims it as government-designated grazing land.
Tensions flared on Sunday when the Bhati family attempted to install wire fencing around the disputed area. Members of the Damaami community opposed this action, resulting in a physical confrontation that involved the use of sticks.
Injuries were reported on both sides, with Jaspal Singh from the Bhati family suffering a head injury that required stitches at the government hospital in Alot.
The Damaami community’s grievances stem from their desire to organise a Bhagwat Katha event on the land, which they argue is rightfully grazing territory. This cultural aspect adds another layer to the dispute, as the Bhati community maintains its claim based on long-standing agricultural practices.
The matter is currently under review in the Alot tehsil court, where a status quo order has been issued by the tehsildar, complicating any immediate resolution. Both communities have filed complaints with local police, resulting in FIRs against approximately 10 individuals from each side.
