Cyclone Fengal is gradually moving closer to India’s eastern coast and Chennai, along with the state of Tamil Nadu are bracing for impact. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) said that the intensity of the storm has been categorised as T2.5. The Cyclonic storm Fengal is currently raging in the Bay of Bengal and is 190 km southeast of Chennai, 180 km east of Puducherry. The IMD is continuously monitoring the weather and the cyclonic activity.
When Is Cylcone Fengal Landfall Expected?
As per IMD, Cyclone Fengal is expected to make a landfall today (November 30). The department has said that Cyclone Fengal will cross north Tamil Nadu-Puducherry coasts between Kariakal and Mahabalipuram close to Puducherry.
It is expected that when Fengal will make landfall, there will winds speeding between 70 and 80 kmph gusting up to 90 kmph.
Sea conditions are also likely to be rough. The weather department has given high wave warning for Chennai, Thiruvallur, Kancheepuram, Villupuram.
With respect to landfall of Cyclone Fengal, red alert has been sounded in Chennai, Chengalpattu, Villupuram and Cuddalore
Orange alert has been sounded for Thiruvallur, Kancheepuram, Tiruvannamalai, Kallakurichi, Ariyalur, Mayiladuthurai, Thiruvarur
For rest of the state of Tamil Nadu, yellow alert has been issued and people have been advised to follow weather updates and remain watchful.

Cyclone Fengal Rain Prediction:
The IMD has predicted Isolated heavy to very heavy rain with extremely heavy rain over Chennai, Chengalpattu, Kancheepuram, Villupuram, Cuddalore, Tiruvallur Kallakurichi districts and Puducherry.
Heavy to very heavy rains have been predicted in Vellore, Perambalur, Tiruvannamalai, Karaikal, Tiruvarur, Mayiladuthurai, Nagapattinam, Ariyalur and Thanjavur.
Heavy rain is predicted for Krishnagiri, Salem, Namakkal, Tiruchirappalli, Pudukkottai, Karur, Dharmapuri, Karaikal
Cyclone Fengal: Warning For Fishermen
IMD has advised ‘total suspension of fishing operations’. The department has asked fisherfolk to not venture in Southwest Bay of Bengal. Fishermen who are at sea have been asked to return to coast.
