Jamaica, 30 November (Hindustan Reporter). West Indies Test captain Kraigg Brathwaite has expressed hope that his team will end 2024 on a high note by winning the second Test against Bangladesh starting today in Jamaica and clean sweep the two-match series.
After a 201-run win in the first match of the series in Antigua, the hosts will be eyeing a clean sweep of the series. Incidentally, the last Test clean sweep by West Indies was also against Bangladesh by 2-0 in 2022.
“It is very important to end the year on a high note and we cannot take any Test match or any Test series lightly,” Brathwaite said in the pre-match conference.
“The first Test is history in the making and so we have to start with the bowling unit and the batting unit, but we are looking forward to it,” he said.
Brathwaite is hopeful that after registering victory in the first Test, his fast bowlers will once again perform well. The four-member line-up of fast bowlers – Kemar Roach, Jaden Seals, Shamar Joseph, Alzarri Joseph – along with medium pacer Justin Greaves gave Bangladesh all kinds of trouble in Antigua and shared all the wickets among themselves.
“The bowlers enjoy bowling here and there is a bit of seam for most of the game, which is a good thing,” Brathwaite said. “This is obviously a new ground and there is a lot of humidity here, so we have to start fresh.”
He said, “I have full confidence in all our fast bowlers and I believe that all these guys have different characteristics. I’m really excited about the future of this bowling group.”
