New Delhi, 28 November (Hindustan Reporter). The proceedings of Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha were marred by opposition uproar on Thursday also. Due to the uproar in both the houses over Ad. bribery and Sambhal case, the proceedings were first adjourned at 12 o’clock and later for the whole day.
Congress General Secretary Priyanka Gandhi and Nanded MP Ravindra Chavan took oath of membership in the Lok Sabha today. After this the proceedings were adjourned till 12 noon. The opposition’s uproar continued even when the proceedings resumed in the afternoon. As a result, the proceedings were adjourned for the day.
A proposal to extend the tenure of the Joint Parliamentary Committee on Waqf (Amendment) Bill 2024 till the last day of the budget session was passed in the Lok Sabha today by voice vote. The proposal was put forward by committee chairman Jagdambika Pal.
During this, Parliamentary Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju condemned the opposition for not allowing the proceedings of the Lok Sabha to continue. He said that in the meeting of the Business Advisory Committee, all the members had agreed to discuss the bills and allow the work to proceed smoothly. However, there is commotion here.
He also condemned the ruckus created by the opposition during the extension of the tenure of the Waqf related committee. He said that it was un.mously agreed to extend the tenure of the committee but the opposition is creating ruckus during the voting on the proposal.
Earlier, Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla, while reminding the opposition of the 75th anniversary of the Constitution, said that there were disagreements and debates in the Constituent Assembly too, but this kind of uproar is not right. He said that during the 75 years of the Constitution, there were debates, disagreements and consensus in the Constituent Assembly but everyone maintained dignified conduct. He will give enough time and opportunity to the opposition on every issue.
Meanwhile, proceedings in the Rajya Sabha were also disrupted. At the beginning of the morning proceedings, Minister of State for Science and Technology, Dr. Jitendra Singh, moved a motion for elections to the Sree Chitra Tirunal Institute for Medical Sciences and Technology, Thiruvananthapuram, which was approved by the Rajya Sabha.
The proceedings of Rajya Sabha were first adjourned till 12 noon. After that, when the proceedings started, the opposition started creating ruckus. As a result, the proceedings of the House were adjourned for the day.
During this, Chairman Jagdeep Dhankhar said that our national sentiment should echo in the House. Parliamentary disruption is not a solution but a disease. This weakens our foundation and makes Parliament irrelevant. We must continue to ensure its relevance.
He said that when we stray from constructive discussion, we fail to respect the trust of millions of people who look to us as the custodians of their democratic aspirations.
