China corruption news: Bribery is common in many countries like India. Many of them also jokingly say that if they are caught taking bribe, they get released by paying the bribe. This is happening not only in India but in many countries. But the case of China is the opposite. Former Bank of China Chairman Liu Liang was sentenced to death on Tuesday in a corruption and illegal loan allocation scandal. It has been proved that he had taken a bribe of 121 million yuan i.e. 1.68 crore dollars (Rs 160 crore).

A court in Jinan city in China’s eastern Shandong province has convicted Liu Linang and sentenced him to death in a bribery scandal, drawing worldwide attention. In general, the death penalty for bribery is rarely imposed in other countries. Even in the fundamentalist so-called Islamic countries of the Middle East, a government official has rarely been executed for bribery. In that too, the announcement of death sentence to the head of a prestigious institution like Bank of China has created a stir not only in China but in the entire world.

Liu was deprived of political rights for life, with all his personal property confiscated. All illegal profits earned by him will be recovered from him and deposited in the state treasury. The court found that Liu abused various positions at the Export Import Bank of China and the Bank of China and took bribes to assist others in loan financing, project cooperation and personal arrangements.

In addition, they also gave loans of more than 3.32 billion yuan to ineligible comp.es in violation of legal regulations. At its peak, capital losses were 190.7 million yuan (i.e. $2.7 million). Liu is thus the second banker to receive the death penalty for corruption.

On November 20, the Chinese Communist Party ousted Luo Wenlong, former vice president of the Agricultural Bank of China, on corruption charges.

Apart from this, proceedings have also been initiated against Wang Yixin, former vice-governor of northeastern China’s Heilongjiang province, on charges of taking bribes. This action will be taken after investigation by the National Supervision Commission. The Heze Municipal People’s Procuratorate in China’s eastern Shandong province filed the case with the city’s Intermediate Court following an investigation by the National Supervision Commission.

Prosecutors allege Wang worked in Hainan and Shaanxi provinces to provide benefits to others in exchange for bribes. These benefits were of huge amount. Since Chinese President Xi Jinping came to power in 2012, he has launched a massive anti-corruption campaign, prosecuting more than one million corrupt officials, including two former defense ministers and top military officers.
