There is news of relief for people suffering from high blood pressure. A study conducted by scientists at the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS), Delhi, and Imperial College, London, has shown that a combo pill, which is a combination of two blood pressure-lowering drugs taken at once, can reduce blood pressure. Can control effectively.

The study is known as ‘Treatment Optimization for Blood Pressure with Single-Pill Combination in India’ (TOPSPIN). It included 1,981 participants, whose mean age was 52.1 years. The study included people from both urban and rural populations, leading to results that proved wide-ranging and diverse.

Which drugs were tested?

Three types of two-drug combination pills were tested in the study:

* Amlodipine + Perindopril

* Amlodipine + Indapamide

* Perindopril + Indapamide

All three drugs showed a reduction of approximately 14/8 mm Hg (ambulatory BP) and 30/14 mm Hg (office BP). BP could be controlled to <140/90 mm Hg in 70% of the participants.

According to Professor Ambuj Roy of the Cardiology Department of AIIMS, this one pill is five times more effective than the existing medicines. He said that the combination of both the medicines is not only safe but also more effective. It is given in small quantities, which also reduces harm.

from 300 million more people

India suffers from high blood pressure, and this study provides a roadmap for drug selection for the South Asian population. This model of single-pill therapy is not only convenient but can prove to be a revolutionary step in the management of hypertension in a country like India.
