India’s young opener Yashasvi Jaiwal played a strong inning of 161 runs against Australia. The left-handed batsman took his number of runs in the match beyond 150 by taking a single off Mitchell Starc. Yashasvi has created history on the basis of this innings. Yashasvi has now become the first batsman in Asia to score more than 150 runs in the first 4 centuries of his career. Before this innings, Yashasvi’s Test centuries were 171, 209 and 214.
Yashasvi created history
India’s young opening batsman Yashasvi became the third Indian batsman to score a century in his first Test on Australian soil with his innings of 161 runs. He joins the list of Indian batsmen, including Sunil Gavaskar, who scored a century on their debut Test in Australia. Motaganahalli Jayasimha was the first batsman to do so with an innings of 101 in Brisbane during the 1967–68 tour.
Joined Sachin-Kohli’s club
In Perth, Yashasvi made a big record by completing his century in 205 balls. Yashasvi’s name is now included among those Indian batsmen who have scored a century on Kangaroo soil at a young age. Jaiswal is currently 22 years and 332 days old, while the great Sachin Tendulkar scored the century at the age of 18 in 1992. Apart from this, Virat Kohli had achieved this feat at the age of 23.
Yashasvi completed his century by hitting a six
Jaiswal completed his century in spectacular style by hitting a six off Josh Hazlewood. In the 62nd over of the innings, he played an upper cut and took his run score to the third digit. This is Jaiswal’s fourth Test century. His first Test century came in his first match against the West Indies. Earlier this year, he had scored double centuries in two consecutive Test matches against England under the captaincy of Ben Stokes.
Yashasvi scored a century after 9 months
The left-handed batsman has now crossed the 100-run mark in red ball cricket after nine months. In the second season, Jaiswal lost his wicket to Mitchell Marsh. He scored 161 runs in 297 balls with the help of 15 fours and three sixes. He missed by just four runs from breaking David Warner’s record of highest score as an opener on this ground. Warner had scored 164 runs against Pakistan in Perth last year.
