12 more people died in the last 24 hours in a violent clash between two communities in Kurram district of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Pakistan, taking the death toll to 30. More than 20 people have been injured in violent clashes between tribal communities in the lower reaches of Alizai and Bagan, government officials said, adding that talks with local and tribal elders to restore peace are underway successfully.
According to the police, at least 75 people have been killed in the last three days in the ongoing fighting between different communities. According to reports, after the latest clashes, around 300 families have left their homes and gone to safer places. A senior official said people are scared, which is why 300 families have already shifted to Hangu and Peshawar, with many more families preparing to leave their homes.
Such incidents are coming to light every day in the areas where violence is currently taking place. Last month itself, 16 people, including three women and two children, were killed in clashes in Kurram. Earlier in July and September also dozens of people were killed. According to HRCP, 79 people were killed in the clashes between July and October.
Protests against violence at many places
Rights groups and authorities have condemned the violence and those killed in the violence. The Independent Human Rights Commission of Pakistan (HRCP) has asked the authorities to pay immediate attention to the situation of violence and said that the violence is increasing. There is a need to control this. Along with this, many people took part in protests in Lahore and Karachi on Friday, while thousands of people took part in protests in Parachinar of Kurram district. Many people also attended the funeral of those killed in the violence.
The Chief Minister said that every necessary work will be done to stop the violence.
Gandapur Chief Minister Ali Amin Gandapur said regarding the violence that all options will be used to restore peace. He participated in a virtual meeting. Saying that the incident of attack on police vehicles was highly condemnable, the Chief Minister, chairing a meeting to discuss the situation in Kurram through a video link, expressed his condolences to the families of those killed in the violence. The Chief Minister said that the incident of armed attack on vehicles is extremely regrettable and condemnable. The Chief Minister expressed condolences to the families of the deceased.
During the meeting, the government delegation met the tribal community and submitted its report to the Chief Minister. The Chief Minister said the ceasefire was necessary to move towards resolution of the conflict, and urged tribal elders to cooperate with the government delegation and the local administration. CM said that he himself is monitoring the situation in the area. The government is trying to resolve this dispute.
