Can control. can bring

The study is called ‘Treatment Optimization for Blood Pressure with Single-Pill Combinations in India’ (Topspin). It included 1,981 participants, whose average age was 52.1 years. The study included people from both urban and rural populations, resulting in wide-ranging and diverse results.

What drugs were tested?
Three types of two-drug combination pills were tested in the study:
* Amlodipine + Perindopril
* Amlodipine + Indapamide
* Perindopril + Indapamide

All three drugs showed reductions of approximately 14/8 mm Hg (ambulatory BP) and 30/14 mm Hg (office BP). 70% of participants had BP controlled to <140/90 mm Hg.

five times more effective
According to Professor Ambuj Roy of the Cardiology Department of AIIMS, this one pill is five times more effective than the existing medicines. He said that the combination of both the medicines is not only safe but also more effective. It is given in small doses, which reduces the harm.

An important step for India
More than 30 crore people in India suffer from hypertension, and this study provides a roadmap in drug selection for the South Asian population. This model of single pill therapy is not only convenient but can prove to be a revolutionary step in controlling hypertension in a country like India.
