(Kharkiv is in the north of Ukraine, Mykolaiv is in the south)
The vast majority of areas that Putin wants to continue occupying are Russian allies (Russians).
Earlier this month, Putin had said that ground realities should be taken into account before any ceasefire. He also expressed concern that even a short-term ceasefire would allow the West to re-arm Ukraine. If Ukraine does not remain neutral, there is no possibility of establishing good neighborly relations between Russia and Ukraine.
