Kiwi: Kiwi, the leading fintech platform enabling credit card transactions through UPI, today announced its increased focus on the Gujarat market. Ahmedabad has emerged as a strong hub in terms of credit card adoption and spending on UPI and is ranked seventh in the country, while it has moved up to ninth overall in terms of credit card penetration.
According to Kiwi, credit card adoption on UPI in Gujarat is growing at 25 percent on a monthly basis. The high prevalence of UPI-linked credit cards in Ahmedabad shows that people in the city prefer UPI payments for essential and discretionary expenses. Kiwi’s platform bucks this trend and provides consumers with the ease of UPI as well as ease of credit and returns. With Gujarat as a key hub, Kiwi aims to create a more credit-driven environment by adapting to changing consumer needs.
The scale of UPI proliferation is visible across the country. UPI QR codes have reached 25.64 crore which is almost 33 times more than 77.9 lakh POS terminals. Ahmedabad stands out due to the large number of QR-enabled businesses, which has enabled easy UPI usage and created a strong base for credit-on-UPI adoption. Incentives such as cashback and rewards attract value-conscious consumers in the city, making Credit-on-UPI a natural choice in the growing digital economy.
Mohit Bedi, co-founder and business head of Kiwi, said Gujarat and Ahmedabad in particular have a history of adopting the latest financial solutions. It has a strong ecosystem of local and small merchants already empowered by UPI based QR code payments.
Kiwi’s platform enables consumers to make more flexible, easier credit card payments directly through UPI, seamlessly integrate credit into everyday transactions and drive financial inclusion in this vibrant market.
Siddharth Mehta, co-founder and COO, Kiwi, said the trend of UPI-linked credit cards in Gujarat is a clear indication of consumers’ changing preference for greater flexibility and control over spending. Kiwi is proud to be part of this change and offers a solution that integrates credit with UPI for faster and secure transactions.
As we grow in Ahmedabad and across Gujarat, we are committed to not only providing innovative products but also promoting responsible credit usage that supports long-term financial well-being.
Kiwi’s expansion in Gujarat is in line with its national strategy to advance access to credit through UPI, meet the demands of digitally savvy consumers and increase credit adoption and diffusion. As a TPAP company, Kiwi is currently offering credit cards in partnership with Axis Bank and Yes Bank.
