Hisar, 20 November (Hissar). Haryana Agricultural University Vice Chancellor Prof. BR Kamboj has said that the university is continuously providing advice related to agricultural work to the farmers. For this reason, farmers are getting help in taking decisions related to agricultural work.

Vice Chancellor Prof. BR Kamboj was addressing the inauguration of Agriculture Officer Workshop (Rabi) 2024 in the Agriculture College Auditorium on Wednesday. Scientists from the university and agriculture officers from all the districts of the state’s Agriculture and Farmers Welfare Department are participating in the workshop. He said that new varieties, new technologies, and new recommendations as well as future strategies will be discussed in detail in the workshop. The Vice Chancellor called for motivating the farmers to cultivate pulses and oilseed crops instead of traditional crops to make the agriculture sector profitable. Farmers should be made aware to cultivate those crops which require less nutrients and water as well as reduce the cost of production. He said that agriculture sector is a huge platform and our foremost objective is to increase agricultural production, food security, income of farmers and limited use of natural resources.

The university is working in a planned manner to promote natural and org.c farming. To increase the production of farmers, the scientists of the university are continuously working on research and new technologies and in collaboration with the officials of the Agriculture and Farmers Welfare Department, these technologies are being delivered to the farmers. He said that in the year 2023-24, food grain production in Haryana has increased to 332 lakh metric tons, due to which Haryana is the second largest contributor to the central pool of the country. The increase in food grain production has been possible due to the improved varieties developed by the University, modern agricultural techniques and the dissemination of those techniques to the farmers by the Agriculture Department and Krishi Vigyan Kendras. Keeping in mind the issues like crop residue management, crop diversification, soil health and climate change, there is a need to increase crop production by using modern technology and promptly solve the problems related to agriculture. The Vice Chancellor also released the action report book of the last Kharif in the workshop.

Dr. Raja Shekhar Vundru, Additional Chief Secretary, Agriculture and Farmers Welfare Department, and Raj Narayan Kaushik, Director, Agriculture and Farmers Welfare Department, joined the workshop through online medium. Dr. RS Solanki, Additional Director of Agriculture Department, threw light in detail on the schemes being implemented by the state government for the welfare of farmers like Mera P.-Meri Virasat, Har Khet Swasth Khet, Meri Fasal Mera Byora and Pradhan Mantri Fasal Bima Yojana.

Giving detailed information about the workshop, Director of Extension Education of the University, Dr. Balwan Singh Mandal told about the various activities org.zed by the Directorate. Research Director Dr. Rajbir Garg told about the ongoing research projects and latest technologies of the university. Dr. Sunil Dhanda, Co-Director, Directorate of Extension Education, moderated the forum.
