Mumbai: Heavy air pollution in northern India has affected operations in factories and reduced supply chain and workforce productivity. Industry body PHD Chamber of Commerce and Industry (PHDCCI) said air pollution has affected the production of about 34 lakh micro, small and medium enterprises (MSMEs) in Punjab, Delhi and Haryana.
Given the impact on operations, comp.es have been forced to take measures to mitigate the situation. About 70 lakh employees are associated with MSMEs in these three states.
As a result of the steps being taken by the Delhi government, not only transport services have been disrupted, but construction activities have also come to a halt. The disruption in industrial activities has increased production costs and disrupted the supply chain, a PHDCCI official said.
Along with affecting the health of employees, the production of goods is also being affected due to polluted air.
Various measures are being taken to reduce the adverse effects. The northern region of India, especially Delhi-NCR, has been facing the problem of bad weather for the last few days.
The Confederation of Indian Industry is taking steps with the government to mitigate the problem, a federation official said. Let us tell you here that MSMEs have an important contribution in the Gross Domestic Product (GDP) of the country.
