New Delhi: Indian stock market will remain closed today (20 November 2024). Apart from the weekly holiday of Saturday-Sunday, the stock market remains closed only on festivals or some other special occasions. Talking about holiday on Wednesday, today is voting for Maharashtra Assembly elections. Most of the work related to stock market is done from Mumbai. Therefore, there will be no trading in both BSE and NSE today.
Both the exchanges – BSE and NSE had already given official information about this. There will be no trading on the currency market and commodity exchange. This means that the prices of currency and gold and silver will also not be updated.
Maharashtra Legislative Assembly Elections and Results
Voting for the assembly elections in Maharashtra is taking place today i.e. on 20th November. Voting is going on on 288 seats in the state. Therefore, the campaign period ended late in the evening on Monday (November 18, 2024). Banks and schools are also closed in Maharashtra today. Liquor shops will also not open. Counting of votes for Maharashtra Assembly elections will take place on November 23 and the results will also be declared on the same day.
NSE has Issued Notification
On November 8, NSE informed about the stock market being closed on the occasion of Maharashtra Assembly and issued a notification. It said that the exchange will remain closed on Wednesday 20 November 2024 due to Maharashtra Assembly elections. There will be no business on this day.
There will be no trading in equity derivatives and SLB segments on BSE and NSE. Trading in currency derivatives segment will also remain closed. Multi Commodity Exchange (MCX) and National Commodity Exchange (NCDEX) will remain closed from 9 am to 5 pm.
