Italy’s Jannik Sinner won the ATP Finals title by defeating America’s Taylor Fitz in straight sets 6-4, 6-4. Sinner also became the first Italian to win the final major tennis tournament of the year, played between the best eight players in the world.
Sinner, the world’s first player in men’s singles, won the Australian Open and US Open Grand Slam this year. During this period, he also won the trophy of world number one player. This was the third match between Sinner and Fitz in recent times and the Italian was victorious in all three. Both the players also faced each other in the group stage of this tournament, in which Sinner won with the same score of 6-4, 6-4. He broke Fitz once in both sets of the final.
Fitz defeated two-time winner Alexander Zverev of Germany in the semi-finals. Sinner has been in controversies and discussions this year also due to doping. He was found positive in doping tests twice. Germany’s Tim Puetz and Kevin Kravitz lift the ATP Finals doubles trophy. The duo defeated Croatia’s Mat Pavic and El Salvador’s Marcelo Arevalo 7-6 (7-5), 7-6 (8-6) in the final.
