Even after 8 hours of the fire incident at Mahar. Lakshmibai Medical College, Jhansi, no FIR has been registered. Apart from this, no responsibility of any hospital employee has been fixed regarding this incident. The investigation of the incident has been completed. But other investigations are still going on.
A massive fire broke out in the SNCU ward of the Medical College on Friday night. This incident took the lives of 10 newborn babies. After this, an infant died on Sunday and again on Monday. A total of 12 people have died. The investigation report has reached the authorities. On Monday, a high level team led by the Director General of Health arrived and started the investigation. But amid this investigation, a case related to the incident could not be registered.
Apart from this, no employee, officer or other person of the medical college will be held accountable. This is when the matter is resonating from Lucknow to Delhi. Opposition parties have made the death of the newborn an issue. They are cornering the government on this issue.
There were no adequate fire prevention arrangements in the medical college. A fire audit report in February confirmed this. To overcome these shortcomings, the college administration has sent a proposal of Rs 1 crore to the authority.
Meanwhile, it is being said that the multipurpose fire extinguisher which was being used to extinguish the fire in the medical college, should not have been used in the ICU ward. According to whistleblowers, CO2-badged fire extinguishers should have been used in the KICU and NICU wards. In SNCU switch boards where fire occurs due to short circuit, only CO2 based fire extinguishers should be used.
