New Delhi: The capital Delhi has become a gas chamber. At 8 pm on Sunday night, when the Central Pollution Control Board was showing Delhi’s AQI as 441, at the same time in the app of Swiss company IQAir, this figure was touching such a dangerous level, which we cannot even imagine. It was touching the level of 1,121 which increased to 1,282 at 9:30 pm.

Talking about other cities of NCR, AQI was recorded at 707 in Bahadurgarh, Haryana, 829 in Gurugram, 651 in Ghaziabad and 418 in Noida. Whereas the air quality figures shown by the Pollution Control Board in these cities do not match at all. With this, the average AQI of Delhi has been recorded at 481 this morning. Apart from this, AQI 624 was recorded in Anand Vihar, Delhi.

Snowfall is occurring on the mountains due to western disturbance.

These different scales of AQI levels also raise questions on the instruments used to measure air quality in the country. Talking about Delhi, the AQI on IQAir was 500 at 5 pm, which reached 1,121 at 8 pm. A major reason for this is believed to be the sudden calm of the wind. According to IMD meteorologist RK Jenam., due to the effect of western disturbance there has been snowfall and rain in the mountains.

Due to this, moisture and coolness is also coming along with the north-westerly wind. In such a situation, the level of fog is increasing. Moderate to dense fog can also be seen at night. Dense fog may also occur in the morning. As fog increases and the wind slows down, pollution levels also increase.

These areas had the highest AQI on Sunday

Location AQI CBCB AQI IQAir

Delhi 441 1,282

Ghaziabad

362 651

Faridabad 275 263

Gurugram 310 829

Noida 316 418

Bahadurgarh 482 707

Although IQAir shows the AQI to be hazardous in NCR, it does not show the same situation in other cities. Therefore there is no reason to doubt. At 9.30 pm, AQI was recorded at 156 in Kanpur and 153 in Haridwar on the app. Not only this, AQI was 263 in Faridabad and 211 in Sonipat.
