Jhansi, 16 November (HS). Ten children died in a sudden fire late Friday night in the NICU of the infant ward in Jhansi Medical College, Uttar Pradesh, while the condition of many children is critical. 35 children have been evacuated safely. District Magistrate Avinash Kumar has confirmed the death of ten children. Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath expressed grief over the death of children and wished for the speedy recovery of the injured. CM has constituted a committee to investigate the incident. The CM has handed over the investigation of the incident to Commissioner Vimal Kumar Dubey and DIG Kal.dhi Naith. and asked them to submit their report within 12 hours. Teams of doctors from Kanpur are also reaching the spot.
On Friday night, around 11 o’clock, suddenly people started shouting and screaming from the Gynecology and Obstetrics Department of the Medical College, picking up their newborns from the bed and running out. The incident caused a stampede there. Pregnant women were also taken away by their family members. On information, police and district administration including police and fire brigade vehicles reached the spot. At present there is complete darkness in the medical college. Nothing is visible due to smoke. Relief and rescue work is going on. Apart from the medical college administration and district administration, DIG, Commissioner and DM are also on the spot.
Meanwhile, Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has taken cognizance of the accident that took place in Jhansi Medical College. The Chief Minister expressed condolences to the bereaved families of the deceased children. The Chief Minister has instructed the district administration officials to immediately take the injured to the hospital and provide them proper treatment. Also wished for speedy recovery of the injured. The Chief Minister directed the district administration officials and fire brigade vehicles to reach the spot and expedite the relief work. On the other hand, Deputy Chief Minister Brijesh Pathak has left for Jhansi.
