Mirzapur, July 07 (Hindustan Times). The National Green Tribunal has banned 39 stone quarries located in the hills of Bhagautidei and Sonpur under Rajgarh development block of Mirzapur district till further orders. The NGT gave this order due to pollution caused by illegal mining and blasting.
The order was uploaded by the NGT on its website on July 5, while it had passed the stay order on July 3. Sampurnanand, a resident of Bhagautidei, said that while hearing his application, the NGT had on April 27 directed to stop illegal mining in 39 out of 40 stone quarries operating in Bhagautidei and Sonpur hill areas, but no action was taken on it. He again took the issue to NGT. During the hearing, the NGT, on its July 3 order, banned 39 stone quarries with immediate effect. Along with this, the NGT has also ordered the District Magistrate Mirzapur to be present in the next hearing to be held on July 25.
