India is a country full of diversities. Along with the common people in India, many tribes also lead their lives with their own customs and traditions. There are many traditions that are a bit strange. Today we are going to talk about some such strange traditions.
An interesting tradition is found in Gujarat. The Garasia tribals living in Udaipur, Sirohi, Pali districts of Gujarat as well as Rajasthan speak Gujarati, Marwari, Mewari and Bhili languages. Here boys and girls live together before marriage and after that if no child is born to them then this relationship is not recognized.
The Khasi tribe of Meghalaya also has such a unique practice regarding marriage. Here a woman can marry as many times as she wants. Not only this, if a woman wishes, she can keep her husband in her in-laws house after marriage.
One such strange tradition is found in Kinnaur district of Himachal Pradesh. In this tribe, all the brothers of the house together marry the same girl. This age-old practice is locally called Ghotul practice. It is believed that during the Mahabharata, the Pandavas lived in exile in the caves of Kinnaur district along with Draupadi and Mother Kunti.
In the Dhurwa tribes of Chhattisgarh, brothers and sisters marry each other. Here is the wedding of my cousin brother and sister. Those who refuse marriage proposals are fined.
In South Indian society, the marriage of maternal uncle and niece is considered auspicious. Land-ownership is considered to be the main reason behind this practice. It is told that the sister does not want the rights of her uncle’s house, so her brother takes her daughter in marriage.
