Thane: The Kongaon police arrested nine Bangladeshi nationals women for allegedly residing illegally in Bhiwandi’s Kongaon area without valid visas or documentation on Thursday. The room owner, identified as Deepak Thackeray, has also been booked for providing shelter without verification.

The Bangladeshi nationals have been identified as Seema Began Siraj, 27; Rekha Anishram Ram, 24; Rupa Anishram alias Sati Iqbal Husain Akhtar, 24; Anjani Habib Shah, 24; Sharda Bansi Sahu, 42; Mamta Sharda Sahu, 26; Payal Raju Sahu, 28; Pinki Sharda Sahu, 45; and Kajal Sahu, 20.

The police stated that they raided houses in Thakurpada, located in Rajnoli Naka in Bhiwandi, all within the jurisdiction of the Kongaon police station in Bhiwandi. Following their arrest, they were presented in court.

Investigations revealed that they had fled Bangladesh due to poverty and unemployment in their home country. A complaint was filed by Shreya Khatal a woman police constable from the Kongaon police station.

The police reported receiving information about Bangladeshi nationals who were residing illegally in Bhiwandi. A team was formed, and a raid was conducted in the area. During the preliminary inquiry, it was discovered that they had entered India illegally from Bangladesh.

The police also confirmed that they did not possess valid documents or permission to work and live in Bhiwandi. In recent years, Thane has witnessed a notable increase in illegal Bangladeshi migrants. In response, the police have launched a special campaign to identify and apprehend such individuals.

Netaram Maske, senior police inspector from Kongaon Police Station, said, “An FIR has been registered against the them under the provisions of the Foreign Nationals Act and the Indian Passport Act. We arrested them and produced in court and remanded in police custody for further investigation into this matter. “
