8th Pay Commission: Apart from fitment factor, these methods will also increase your salary

The Central Government announced the 8th Pay Commission in January 2025, which has raised hopes of increment in government employees. Especially the increase in fitment factor (Fitment Factor) is likely to increase their salary. However, the salary of employees will not increase only with the fitment factor. There are many more important components of increment.

How does salary grow from fitment factor?

The Fitment Factor is a multiplier, used to revise the basic salary and pension of government employees. The 8th Pay Commission is expected to have the fitment factor to be 2.86. If this happens, the basic salary of the employees will increase from Rs 18,000 to Rs 51,000 directly.

Apart from fitment factor

The fitment factor only affects the basic salary, but the gross salary is different from this. The gross salary also includes various types of allowances such as dearness allowance, house rent allowance, travel allowance, etc., which leads to increase in total salary.

Understand the previous history from the example

The Fitment Factor in the 7th Pay Commission was 2.57, causing the basic salary to increase from 7,000 rupees to Rs 18,000. However, in fact, there was an average increase in the salary and pension of Level 1-3 employees. At the same time, the Fitment Factor in the 6th Pay Commission was 1.86, but the salary of employees increased by up to 54 percent. It is clear that only increasing the fitment factor does not make a big change in gross salary.

Other important factor of salary growth

  • Increase in dearness allowance (DA)
  • House Rent Allowance (HRA)
  • Travel Allowance (TA)
  • Other special allowances

The 8th Pay Commission is expected to be implemented from 1 January 2026. This is likely to change the total income of the employees.
