Mumbai: An 85-year-old pedestrian was fatally hit by a two-wheeler while crossing the road in Powai on Friday. The motorcyclist took the victim, Padmsingh Nepali, to Axon Hospital in the vicinity but left shortly after. The hospital, however, lacked oxygen facilities and advised the family to transfer Nepali to Cooper Hospital, where he succumbed. The police traced his vehicle number (MH03 BO 3835) but no arrest has been made yet.
About The Accident
According to the FIR, Nepali resided in Chandivali with his family. On Friday, at 2 pm, he was walking to the State Bank of India to update his passbook. While crossing the road in front of Lubini Buddhavihar, Manubhai Chawl, a motorcyclist hit him from behind, causing Nepali to fall and sustain serious head injuries. When brought to Axon Hospital by the motorcyclist and passers-by, Nepali was admitted to the ICU by Dr Mahesh Sontakke. However, the doctor advised the family to transfer Nepali to Cooper Hospital in Vile Parle West due to the lack of oxygen facility.
While the family was arranging for the transfer, the motorcyclist left the hospital. At Cooper Hospital, Nepali was pronounced dead at around 7.15 pm. He is survived by his 80-year-old wife and a son who works as a driver. The police complaint was filed by Nepali’s daughter-in-law.
