In this context, work has started on an ambitious project in Himachal Pradesh, in which 85 kilometer long road underground Will pass.

1. Four lane highway through tunnels:

   • A total of 68 tunnels are being built in Himachal Pradesh.

Why was the decision taken to build the tunnel?

Last year in Himachal Pradesh, there was a lot of damage on major highways due to heavy rains and natural disasters.

1. Affected Highways:
   • Kiratpur-Manali Highway.
   • Pathankot-Mandi.
   • Pinjore-Nalagarh.
2. Impact of natural disasters:
   • Highways in Kullu and Mandi suffered the most damage.
   • Traffic was badly affected due to rain and snowfall.
3. Suggestion for making tunnel:
   • After the survey, experts suggested building the highway through tunnels.
   • This will reduce the damage caused by natural disasters.

Major highway and tunnel construction

1. Kiratpur-Manali Highway:

3. Pinjore-Nalagarh:
   • This route is being made easier through tunnels.
4. Kalka-Shimla and Shimla-Mataur Highway:
   • Tunnel construction is going on on these routes also.
