Maharashtra elections: With the elections being held in Maharashtra on 20th November, the code of conduct has come into force in the state. Amidst the strict deployment of various investigating agencies and police, Mumbai Police has seized silver worth about Rs 80 crore from Vashi check post.
According to media sources, Mankhurd police seized 8476 kg of silver from a truck during checking during the blockade at Vashi check post late on Friday night. Which costs Rs. It is around 80 crores. The police have interrogated the truck driver in this case and have detained him. The officials also informed the Income Tax Department and the Election Commission team about the matter and conducted an investigation. They are looking for the owner of the silver.

According to the police, there is initial suspicion that silver is being smuggled illegally. Which was to be used in elections. No evidence of validity of silver was found from the driver also. In this situation, if the owner is not informed, it will be confiscated.
Earlier, six tonnes of silver was seized from Vashi.
Earlier last Sunday, Mumbai Police had seized six tonnes of silver bricks from a van in Vikhroli area. These bricks were being taken to the warehouse in Mulund. But this exercise was done under the code of conduct imposed due to elections in Maharashtra. Police in Nashik said they have taken action against more than 17,000 people so far for violating the model code of conduct. Which includes liquor, Rs. Gold, cash etc. worth Rs 49 crore have been seized.
