Palghar, Maharashtra: A 75-year-old man is accused of murdering his 42-year-old son-in-law in the Wada area of Maharashtra’s Palghar district following a heated dispute over money. The gruesome incident occurred on the night between Monday and Tuesday.
The deceased had a history of taking money from various individuals under the false pretence of securing them jobs. He had also reportedly taken money from his father-in-law, leading to significant resentment and frequent quarrels between the two men.
Tensions had escalated previously, with the accused allegedly attacking his son-in-law with a sickle approximately two months prior, resulting in a police case being registered at the time.
On the night of the latest incident, the accused allegedly went to his son-in-law’s residence. Finding the younger man asleep, the accused allegedly attacked him with an axe before fleeing the scene.
Upon receiving an alert, police officers immediately arrived at the location and transported the deceased’s body to a government hospital for post-mortem examination.
Based on a formal complaint lodged by a relative of the deceased, the police registered a First Information Report (FIR) against the accused on Tuesday under section 103(1) (murder) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita.
Authorities have launched a manhunt and are actively working to apprehend the elderly suspect.
