Kanker: In a significant development, seven Naxalites surrendered in Kanker on Friday, including three high-profile rebels with a combined reward of ₹32 lakh. Among them was 60-year-old Mamta alias Shanta, a key figure in the Naxalite movement since its early days. Mamta, carrying an ₹8 lakh bounty, was involved in 26 violent incidents from 1996 to 2024, resulting in the martyrdom of several security personnel.

Another key surrender was Ayatu Ram Potai, a member of Military Company No. 5, responsible for ambushing BSF jawans in 2019. Similarly, Dinesh Matthami of Company No. 10 played a role in deadly attacks on BSF personnel in 2018 and 2019, in which six jawans lost their lives.

Alongside them, Jamuna alias Neera, Sanjay Nareti, Sagun Ram Anchala, and Itwarin Padda also laid down arms. The surrendered Naxalites revealed that many top leaders have fled the forests in search of safe havens, while aging militants, unable to fight, are now surrendering.
