Raipur: Ahead of Union Home Minister Amit Shah’s visit to Bastar on December 15, security forces eliminated seven armed members of the banned CPI Maoist outfit during a gunfight in the Rekawaya area of the Abujhmad region in Narayanpur district on Thursday.
Bastar Range IG Sundarraj P confirmed in a press note of Bastar police that the 7 bodies of the Maoists were recovered from the jungles of Abujhmad. Search operations are underway, and more bodies may be found, police said.
According to the Bastar police, over 1,000 security personnel —including teams from the DRG, STF, and CRPF from Narayanpur, Dantewada, Jagdalpur, and Kondagaon districts—were dispatched after receiving concreted intelligence input about a large gathering of armed Naxals in Abujhmad.
As the security forces moved forward to surround the Maoist the gunfight started. The encounter began around 3 AM on Thursday and is still on-going in some areas, the police said.

On the issue, Chhattisgarh Home Minister Vijay Sharma addressed the media, and made a statement that during the BJP government, 220 Naxalites were killed in one year, surpassing the total number killed during the previous five years of Congress rule.
