Bhind (Madhya Pradesh): An elderly farmer was charred to death after a massive fire broke out in a pile of animal fodder in Madhya Pradesh’s Bhind on Thursday night. The primary cause of the fire is said to be a short circuit.

The deceased has been identified as 65-year-old farmer Maharaj Singh.

The accident happened in Ahrauli village of the Raun police station area, Machhand police outpost area, when a short circuit sparked a fire and the flames spread all over the crops. The 65-year-old man tried to douse the fire when he slipped and fell, and the flames surrounded him in no time.

His family members tried to put out the fire but couldn’t save him.

Two fire brigades also reached the spot.

According to the information, the jowar crop was piled all around in the enclosure outside the house of farmer Maharaj Singh Baghel. There was a sudden short circuit in the enclosure, which ignited a fire. The flames engulfed the crops within seconds.

To save his yield of hard work, 65-year-old Baghel rushed to douse the flames but ended up being caught. Hearing his screams, his family tried to control the raging fire, however in vain. Baghel was charred to death.

Two fire brigade vehicles reached the spot. After the fire was extinguished, the body of the old man was recovered and sent to Raun for postmortem.

The police are investigating the entire matter.
