A 64-year-old woman was killed after a recklessly-driven motorbike hit her from behind, while she was on her way to a temple in Sakinaka. The 19-year-old rider, Hirsha Pujari, a delivery executive, has been arrested.

The fatal mishap occurred between 6.30 pm and 7pm on December 8 when the Mira Road resident, Saromi Singh, was on her way to the Jain temple in the Nahar Amrut Shakti area of Chandivali.

According to the FIR, the motorbike, driven recklessly, hit her from behind, causing her to fall and sustain severe head injuries. Passers-by rushed a profusely-bleeding Singh to Rajawadi Hospital in Ghatkopar East, where she was pronounced dead.

The victim’s son, Sonu, 40, who runs a transport business, was at work when the accident happened. He came to know about the tragedy from his neighbours around 9pm. By the time he reached the hospital, his mother had succumbed.

Based on Sonu’s complaint, the Sakinaka police booked Pujari for causing death by negligence and rash driving.
