Indore (Madhya Pradesh): The novel initiative of the administration, under which the public was asked to give information about beggars and claim a cash award of Rs 1,000, has started yielding results. Six informants were given cash prizes of Rs 1,000 each on Monday. The initiative is aimed at making the city beggar-free.
Under this initiative, giving and taking alms is banned. Those who give information about begging are also being given an incentive amount of Rs 1,000 each. Collector Asheesh Singh offered Rs 1,000 each to Akash Parashar, Akash Nayak, Tushar Gangwani, Wasim Khan, Jitendra Verma and Ankit Malviya who gave information about begging.
Needless to state, the residents of the city are also enthusiastic regarding the move. As many as 200 people provided information on the mobile number issued for sharing the information. The information was verified and 12 tip-offs found correct. Six of the 12 informants were rewarded today.
To recall, collector Singh had issued prohibitory orders under Section 163 of the Indian Civil Security Act 2023, banning any kind of begging. Giving alms to monks or buying goods from them is also prohibited. Legal action will be taken against the person who provides or gives any goods/item to monks as alms or buys anything from them.

If any person is found begging anywhere in the city, Project Officer of Women and Child Development Department Dinesh Mishra can be informed on his mobile number- 9691494951. If the information is found correct, an incentive amount of Rs 1000 will be given to the informant.
