Flyover Construction At Dairy Farm: 55% Complete, Promises Easier Commute For Pimpri Chinchwad Residents |
In a positive development for Pimpri Chinchwad residents, the construction of a flyover at Dairy Farm, initiated by the Pimpri Chinchwad Municipal Corporation (PCMC), is currently underway with 55 percent of the work already completed.
Once completed, the flyover will significantly ease travel for citizens in Pimpri and the surrounding areas, reducing traffic congestion considerably.
The work order for the flyover project at Pimpri Dairy Farm was issued in March 2023. However, the project faced delays due to the presence of trees obstructing the construction site. A proposal for felling and replanting these trees was submitted to the Municipal Corporation’s Tree Authority Committee in April 2023 and received approval in August 2023.
A total of 142 trees that were obstructing the bridge site were removed, while 64 trees were replanted. Some of the approved trees were within the boundaries of the Conservation Department, requiring evaluation and permissions, which were granted in September 2023. Consequently, the tree felling was completed in May 2024, and the replanting took place in November 2024 as per the Ministry of Defense’s guidelines.
Since the flyover is connected to the Railway Department, delays also occurred due to the need for various approvals. The process for securing necessary permissions and transferring funds for changes to the Overhead Equipment (OHE) and other structures of the Railway Department is currently in progress. The Railway Department requested an advance amount of ₹74.89 lakh for this work, which has been paid, and the project is now in the final stage of approval.
Bridge to provide uninterrupted traffic flow
The construction has resumed at an accelerated pace following coordination among all concerned departments. This bridge, which will cross the railway track at Pimpri Dairy Farm, is expected to provide uninterrupted traffic flow. It will save time for commuters traveling for work, business, or other purposes.
Once operational, the flyover will benefit residents of Dairy Farm, Pimple Saudagar, Rahatani, Kalewadi, and Pimpri villages, offering relief from traffic congestion. Additionally, the project will enhance convenience, safety, and fuel efficiency, facilitating quicker and easier travel to the Pune-Mumbai highway and the Tukaram Nagar Metro Station.
Shekhar Singh, Commissioner and Administrator of the Pimpri Chinchwad Municipal Corporation, stated, “The Municipal Corporation is committed to resolving the traffic congestion issues in the city. The Dairy Farm flyover project will significantly improve traffic conditions across Pimpri Chinchwad. All concerned agencies and administrative bodies are working diligently to complete the project on time. Once the bridge is inaugurated, it will alleviate traffic issues and enhance the convenience of citizens.”
Pramod Ombhase, Chief Engineer 2 of PCMC, added, “The Municipal Corporation is focusing on fast-tracking the flyover construction at Dairy Farm. Considering the delays caused by obstacles, the contractor has requested an extension for the project. A decision on the extension will be made after review and approval from Hon. Commissioner Shekhar Singh.”
