Indore (Madhya Pradesh): In an attempt to outsmart the police, two drug smugglers tried to smuggle brown sugar by concealing it in the soles of their slippers.
However, the crime branch saws through their ploy and arrested them. The cops also seized 52.54 grams of brown sugar and an auto-rickshaw, with a total value of Rs 8 lakh, from their possession.
According to the police, acting on a tip-off, officials intercepted an auto-rickshaw near the government hospital behind the DRP Line. Ajay Banoda of Juni Indore and Sonu Pachole of Ramchand Nagar were sitting inside the auto.
Sources claimed that although the initial search of the suspects and the auto-rickshaw found no narcotic substances, officials became suspicious of their unusually thick slippers. Upon closer scrutiny, packets of brown sugar were found concealed inside the soles.
During interrogation, the accused allegedly confessed to buying drugs from Rajasthan and supplying them in Indore. They admitted to using this concealment method on multiple occasions to evade detection. Ajay has a criminal record with 10 cases, including liquor smuggling and theft, registered at various police stations. Sonu has 13 criminal cases against him.
