Pune resident Vijay Bhalerao, 51, was arrested at Mumbai International Airport for allegedly ripping pages from his passport to hide his trips to Bangkok from his family, according to reports.

Immigration officers at Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport detained Bhalerao early Monday after noticing missing pages in his passport during routine verification.

During questioning, Bhalerao admitted to intentionally tearing out the pages that contained Thai entry and exit stamps from his four visits to Bangkok last year. He had recently returned from Indonesia earlier this month, also traveling through Mumbai’s international terminal.

Authorities transferred Bhalerao to the Sahar Police Station, where he was charged under provisions of the Bharatiya Nyay Sanhita and the Passport Act. Police have launched an investigation into the matter.
