Thane: A five-year-old girl died after falling into the uncovered water tank of a building in Bhiwandi on Monday. The deceased has been identified as Bhagyashree Ojha (5), who lived with her father and mother in a residential building located in Charni Pada in Bhiwandi, within the jurisdiction of Narpoli police station. Bhagyashree was studying in senior kindergarten at a school based in Anjurphata.

The police said that Nandkunar Ojha, the father of the deceased Bhagyashree, left home to go to work in the morning. The police stated that the mother had gone to Bhagyashree’s school in the afternoon after finishing her own school. She, along with her mother, had come to the building. In the meantime, the mother went home while Bhagyashree was playing in the building premises.

The police said that the mother of the deceased started searching for her when she did not return by 1 PM. The mother alerted the watchman and others that her daughter did not appear in the building’s compound. They all looked out for her but did not find her.

One of the residents found that the water tank was opened in the building and alerted the watchman. He peeped into the water tank and found the child’s slipper.

After confirming this, he went into it and found a girl and pulled her out. She was immediately taken to a nearby hospital where she was pronounced dead on arrival.

Pramod Kumbhar, police inspector from Narpoli police said, “Initially booked an Accidental Death Report. Further investigation is underway.”
