Delhi is on the verge of assembly elections, and now a flurry of election promises has started. To come to power for the fourth time, Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) has again introduced free schemes with great enthusiasm, while BJP and Congress have also entered the competition with their schemes. All three parties have promised economic assistance and free schemes for women, and have attempted to attract the masses to bring their respective parties to power. However, the process of promises is still going on. BJP has announced the first part of its manifesto, while Congress is also announcing its promises one by one.

5 major promises of BJP:

  1. Rs 2500 monthly to women: BJP has announced ‘Mahila Samridhi Yojana’, under which women will be given Rs 2500 every month.
  2. Cheap and free cylinders: Cylinders will be provided to poor families for Rs 500, and free cylinders will also be given on Holi and Diwali.
  3. Ayushman Yojana and health scheme for the elderly: Under the Ayushman Yojana, free treatment up to Rs 5 lakh will be given, and senior citizens above 60 years will get free treatment up to Rs 10 lakh.
  4. Increase in pension: The pension of the elderly between 60 to 70 years will be increased from Rs 2000 to Rs 2500, while the pension of the elderly above 70 years, widows and destitute women will be increased to Rs 3000.
  5. Full meal for Rs 5: Atal canteens will be opened in slum areas, where nutritious food will be available for Rs 5.

Congress promises:

  1. 300 units of free electricity: Congress has promised that every family in Delhi will be given up to 300 units of free electricity per month.
  2. Cheap cylinder and free ration: Under the inflation relief scheme, cylinder and free ration kit will be given for Rs 500.
  3. Rs 2500 monthly to women: Under ‘Pyaari Didi Yojana’, women have been promised Rs 2500 every month.
  4. Insurance of Rs 25 lakh: Congress has promised to provide free health insurance of up to Rs 25 lakh under the ‘Jeevan Raksha Yojana’.
  5. Unemployment Allowance of Rs 8500: Congress has promised to give Rs 8500 every month for one year to educated unemployed youth.

AAP’s promises:

  1. Continuation of free schemes: AAP has made it clear that free schemes will continue in Delhi, including schemes like 200 units of free electricity, free water, free treatment and free bus travel for women.
  2. Rs 2100 monthly to women: AAP has promised that after the formation of the government, women will be given Rs 2100 every month, and after the elections this amount will be increased to Rs 2500.
  3. Sanjeevani Yojana for the elderly: All elderly people of Delhi will get free treatment in government and private hospitals.
  4. Free bus travel for students: AAP has promised that if the government is formed, students will be provided free bus travel facility, and will also get 50% discount in metro.
  5. Monthly honorarium of Rs 18,000 to priests and ministers: AAP has promised to give a monthly honorarium of Rs 18,000 to all priests and ministers in Delhi.

This series of promises shows that Delhi’s politics has heated up during the election season and every party is trying its best to woo the voters with its plans.
