5 workers of Jharkhand kidnapped in Niger: Five youths from Bagodar village in Giridih district of Jharkhand went to work in Niger in Africa, where they have been kidnapped. The Nigerian government group suddenly attacked his camp and kidnapped him at gunpoint. These youths were working in the transmission line of ‘Kalpataru Projects International Limited’. The kidnapping incident occurred on 25 April 2025.

Whose kidnapping was kidnapped?

The five laborers of Jharkhand have been kidnapped include Raju Mahato, Chandrika Mahato, Faljit Mahato, Sanjay Mahato and Uttam Mahato. Although a total of six people have been kidnapped, but five Indians include a Nigerian citizen named Adam.

Kidnapping in film style

Other Indian workers, who witnessed the kidnapping, say, “The incident was exactly the same as shown in films.” Our camp was attacked by a gang of about 100 kidnappers aboard 70-80 motorcycles. We ran into the company bus to save our lives, but they followed us. Our bus got stuck in the sand while trying to escape quickly. We got off the bus and ran away in the direction in which it was possible. We saved our lives by hiding in sewer. The kidnappers were firing indiscriminately. Unfortunately, the five Indians mentioned above were caught and taken on a motorcycle at gunpoint.

Who were the kidnappers?

It is still not clear who kidnapped Indian workers. It is believed that they are fighters of the opposing group of the Niger government.

Families of missing people are victims

Ten days have passed for the kidnapping of Indian workers, but no clue has been found so far, due to which the families of workers in India are living in fear of an untoward incident. They are constantly requesting the Indian Ministry of External Affairs to make concerted efforts to save their family members and bring them back to India. External Affairs Minister S.K. Jaishankar has requested. The Niger government is searching for workers.

Florn among remaining workers

All the kidnapped workers moved to Niger in January 2024 and have not returned to India since then. The remaining Indians have also left their jobs due to fear and now they are requesting the Government of India to make arrangements to bring them back to India from Niger as soon as possible.
