A 49-year-old man died after committing suicide by hanging himself with a rope from a ceiling fan in a flat in Ulhasnagar.

The deceased has been identified as Vijay Chavan, who lived with family members in the Ambernath area. He was an electrician by profession.

The statement was filed by Kishan Chavan, a nephew of the deceased Vijay. Vijay ran an electrician’s shop in the Khemani area, Ulhasnagar.

The police said that on December 26, at 1 PM, he visited a residential building in Khemani Chowk in Ulhasnagar for a work.

The complainant, Kishan, stated in the complaint that Vijay told him that he would meet him later, but did not meet him after a day.

Later, he approached the police station and filed a missing person complaint.

The police sources said that the complainant went to a residential flat and found Vijay hanging from a ceiling fan with a rope.

He alerted the Ulhasnagar police about it. The dead body was taken to Central Hospital in Ulhasnagar for a post-mortem.

Vishnu Tamhane, Senior Police Inspector from Ulhasnagar Police Station said, “Initially we filed an Accidental Death Report. We are investigating the matter.”
