The accused, Pradeep Kshatriya, 49, was travelling from Virar to Churchgate in the ladies’ compartment of a local train when the complainant, another hawker, boarded the same compartment at Andheri station. An argument broke out between Kshatriya and a woman passenger.

Sachin Dharolia, 24, the complainant, and his associate intervened in the altercation, and in a fit of rage, Kshatriya attacked Dharolia with a knife. The incident occurred on Wednesday, and the Bandra railway police filed an attempted murder case on the same day.

According to the police, around 2 p.m. on Wednesday, the accused Pradeep Kshatriya was travelling by local train, selling his items in the second-class ladies’ coach of a Churchgate-bound train from Virar station.

At Andheri station, the complainant, Sachin Dharolia, boarded the same compartment. An altercation broke out between Kshatriya and a woman passenger. Dharolia and his associate intervened, and in a fit of rage, Kshatriya attacked Dharolia with a knife, stabbing him near the navel.

One of the women commuters pulled the alarm chain, and when the train halted at Bandra station, the women commuters raised an alarm. Passengers on the platform caught hold of Kshatriya and handed him over to the Bandra GRP. The police transported the victim to Bhabha Hospital.

A police officer stated, “There’s a possibility that some of the women commuters may have asked Dharolia and his associate for help, which led to their intervention.”
