Gwalior (Madhya Pradesh): A 45-year-old medicine trader from Gwalior died after suffering a heart attack while playing badminton on Wednesday.
Despite receiving CPR from his friends when he felt chest pain, he was declared dead by doctors upon arrival at the hospital.
According to information, the incident took place at Abhay Prashal on Wednesday morning.
Amit Chelawat, a resident of South Tukoganj, was playing with his usual group, including jewellers, doctors, and police officers.
After playing two rounds, he suddenly experienced chest pain and lost consciousness. His friends immediately gave him CPR, and he regained consciousness for a short time.
However, he refused to take his medication, citing his religious belief of not eating before 8 AM.
Unfortunately, he suffered another heart attack soon after.
Experts suggest that had he taken his blood-thinning medication, his chances of survival would have improved, allowing him time to reach the hospital.
Amit’s family has donated his eyes and skin to help those in need, in keeping with the Jain tradition of not eating before 8 AM.
Doctor Explains…
Heart disease specialist Dr. Manish Porwal explained that during exercise or sports, the heart requires more blood as its beating rate increases. In such cases, if there are old blockages that were previously undetected, they can cause two situations. The first is abnormal electrical activity, which can cause the heart to stop. The second occurs when the heart muscles don’t receive enough blood, leading to a heart attack. In such cases, immediate CPR is necessary, and any delay can lead to death within two to three minutes.
