Mumbai: A tragic incident occurred on Friday evening on S.L. Matkar Road in Prabhadevi, where a labourer Shankar Gilbile (42 years) from the solid waste management department of G South ward, died after an electric pole fell on him.
According to civic sources, the incident took place while the team was clearing debris after demolishing illegal construction on the road. “During the operation, an excavator might have accidentally hit a nearby tree, weakening its roots, which could have caused the tree to fall onto an electric pole,” said an official.
Gilbile, who was talking on the phone at the time, did not notice the pole falling towards him. He was severely injured and rushed to KEM Hospital, where he was declared brought dead, he added.
