India Uneprement: On the one hand, while employment opportunities in the country are continuously decreasing, on the other hand the Center for Monitoring Indian Economy (CMIE) reports that the sword of retrenchment is hanging on the jobs of about 42 lakh Indians. According to this report, the number of labor force (workers) in the country has decreased.

The number of workers in the country was 45.77 crore in February. Which had declined by 42 lakhs to 45.35 crores in March 2025. Apart from the labor force, data on unemployment and related issues were also published in this report. Accordingly, the number of unemployed people in the country has also decreased. It was 3.86 crore in February, which decreased to 3.5 million in March. The reason for the decline of 3.6 million in unemployment is not that they have got employment, but it is that they stopped searching for work.

People stopped searching for work.

According to the report, employment opportunities in the market have decreased. Due to lack of employment, people have finally stopped searching for employment actively. So they are no longer included in the unemployment list. If the unemployment rate in a country decreases, it shows that the economy of that country is improving. But the reason for the fall in unemployment rate in India is not that people have got employment, but it is that people have stopped searching for employment.

Recruitment rates decreased in various fields

Office staff recruitment has decreased by 1.4 percent as compared to 2024. Subsequently, recruitment in areas such as retail sector, oil and gas and education has also declined. Compared to 2024, there has been a decline of 13 percent in retail sector, 10 percent in oil and gas, 14 percent in education sector and 3 percent in recruitment in IT sector. The government provided more than 10 lakh recruitment through e-marketplace in 2024-25. This platform appoints more than 33,000 service providers based on several criteria such as minimum wage and fixed payment. Nevertheless, the government has failed to fight against unemployment.

The number of unemployed people increased by 1 million per month

Generally, the number of unemployed people increases by about 1 million every month. On an average, 9.9 lakh people joined the unemployment list every month between March 2021 to March 2025. But now according to the figures that have come out, the number of unemployed people has decreased. According to CMIE, people between the ages of 15 to 59 fall into the working age group. This means that these are those who can contribute to the workforce of the country, provided they get employment opportunities. There has also been a decline in employment for working age group compared to last year. If we look at its figures, in December 2024, more than 38 percent of the population of the working age group in the country had employment. In March 2025, this number will decrease to 37.7 percent.
