In a significant move to upgrade the city’s public transport network, Pune Mahanagar Parivahan Mahamandal Limited (PMPML) has announced the installation of 400 new bus shelters across Pune and Pimpri-Chinchwad.

The new bus shelters will be placed in areas with high passenger demand, key residential areas, commercial hubs and educational institutions.

Nitin Narvekar, Joint Managing Director of PMPML, in an exclusive talk with The Free Press Journal, revealed, “The contract of installing 400 new bus shelters have been sanctioned and soon the installation work will be started phase-wise.”

“These shelters will be fully made with stainless steel and will have good sitting arrangements. Each stop will cost around ₹3-4 lakh. We have tied up with different advertising agencies for the construction. In return, the PMPML will display their advertisements for five years. Moreover, we also plan to renovate the existing shelters across the city. However, no tender have been passed yet to renovate the existing shelters.”

“With the addition of these 400 stops, we are committed to ensure smooth and convenient facilities for the Punekars while using public transport,” he further said.
