Indore (Madhya Pradesh): The teams of crime branch caught 40 people, including some women from Haryana and Rajasthan, during the Gair procession on Wednesday.

The women were roaming for snatching valuables in the crowd while a man from Haryana was caught for snatching a gold chain. Some others were caught for harassing women and throwing footwear on the people.

DCP (crime) Rajesh Kumar Tripathi informed Free Press that the teams of crime branch led by ACP Poonam Yadav were deployed in the civil dress to keep an eye on the antisocial elements during the procession.

A man was robbed of his gold chain and when he cried for help the police team caught a person named Sonu Singh, a resident of Faridabad, Haryana.

A gold chain and a cutter for stealing chains were also recovered from him. Sonu had reached Ujjain on March 17 and he later reached the city and joined the Gair procession here. He was handed over to the MG Road police for further action. Other teams also caught Deepak from Haryana, Pawan from Delhi, Amarjeet from Faridabad and Omveer during the procession. Eight people were caught while they were throwing water balloons at the girls and harassing them.

The accused were handed over to MG Road police for further action. The team of women officials of the crime branch also caught 12 women from Haryana, Rajasthan and Punjab as they were roaming in procession to allegedly snatch and steal valuables from people, especially from women.

They were also handed over to the MG Road police. Eight of the women are from Haryana, three from Rajasthan and one from Punjab.

Meanwhile, commissioner of police Santosh Kumar Singh announced a reward to the police teams for their commendable job during the procession.
